The TitansRX 2019 season review concludes with this sixth instalment which looks at more of the wildcard stars that shone briefly in the series maiden campaign.
Ramona Karlsson
Ramona Karlsson’s TitansRX debut marked her return to competition following a lengthy maternity leave, but you wouldn’t have thought she’s been away for a single day.
The Swede was on the pace right away, winning two of her three heat races in round nine and narrowly missing out on a final berth. In round 10 she was again a front runner in the heats, but damage ended her day early.
While her results don’t necessarily show it, Karlsson was arguably one of the stars of the season and given a full campaign there’s little doubt she would be a frontrunner.
Best result: 11th – Round 9, Nyirad
Antoine Masse
After winning the French national Supercar championship, Masse was faced with a year on the sidelines until TitansRX offered him a wildcard berth at his home event.
Masse was immediately quick, posting top-four qualifying results in both round one and two. An electrical issue prevented him from advancing to the final in the first event of the year, while a controversial clash with Hayden Paddon ended his round two early and put quite the dampener on what had been a remarkable showing from the hometown hero.
Best result: 11th – Round 1, Essay; Round 2, Essay
Tom Coronel
Tom Coronel bought his own unique brand of whit and enthusiasm to the TitansRX paddock when he made his series debut in Portugal – a country where he has quite the following thanks to his touring car exploits.
While his tintop form didn’t quite translate over to rallycross right away, Coronel improved over the weekend and never once shied away from the challenge of adapting to rallycross.
While other commitments prevented him from returning for the rest of the season, Coronel is keen for more seat time in TitansRX.
Best result: 12th – Round 6 Montalegre
Mandie August
Mandie August raced on the TitansRX support bill at Lydden Hill and Nyirad, eventually moving over to the main game for the season finale at Estering in Germany.
Racing on home turf, August was immediately on the pace, qualifying for the semi-finals in round 11. A retirement during qualifying for round 12 as the field battled against the elements ended any hope of further progress in the season finale.
Best result: 12th – Round 11, Estering
Tamas Turi
As Nyirad ended its long wait for international rallycross to return, Tamas Turi joined the field for a short but sweet appearance in front of his home crowd.
A brace of semi-final appearances capped off a strong maiden weekend in the category for the rally driver, who narrowly missed out on a final berth, finishing seventh in round 10.
Best result: Seventh – Round 10, Nyirad
Dietmar Brandt
Dietmar Brandt was another driver who joined the show at Nyirad. After a solid performance on the first day, which left him just out of the transfer spots, the German secured a semi-final berth, and an impressive top-10 finish in round 10.
Best result: Ninth – Round 10, Nyirad
