Midway point nears as TitansRX heads to Portugal

The inaugural TitansRX season will reach its halfway point this weekend, with rounds five and six taking place in Montalegre, Portugal.

A tight three-way battle for the series title is hotting up with Kevin Hansen holding a one point lead over Topi Heikkinen at the top of the table and Timmy Hansen a further seven points back. The trio has shared all of the main event wins so far this season, Heikkinen being the only driver to notch up multiple event victories so far in 2019.

Last time out at Lydden Hill Heikkinen claimed the round three win after a strong display during stormy conditions. With the skies cleared for round four, Kevin Hansen moved to the fore, claiming not only his first rallycross final win on the road in 2019, but he also took the series lead for the first time.

The title protagonists headline a 15-car entry list that includes local wildcards Armindo Arajuo and Ivan Ares, as well as touring car superstar Tom Coronel, who will be making the first of a handful of scheduled appearances in the series.

Craig Breen will return to the field fresh from his maiden World Rally Championship appearance for Hyundai. The Irishman sat out of the Lydden Hill rounds as he prepared for his top-level rallying comeback, which resulted in a fine seventh place.

However Breen’s former WRC sparring partner Hayden Paddon will not be appearing, with Oliver Webb taking his place after an impressive wildcard appearance on home soil in the previous two rounds. Nelson Piquet Jr. will also be absent due to previously announced prior commitments.

“The Montalegre rallycross Circuit in Portugal is one of the classics and at the same time world class. The city and club have invested substantially over the years to achieve that,” said TitansRX founder and CEO Max Pucher. “It is a privilege for TitansRX Europe to drive there with an equally world class grid of fifteen race drivers – five new drivers including two local stars will deliver fantastic action in challenging the regulars.”

“I can’t wait to feel the goosebumps again when the engines start up in the morning. TitansRX delivers as promised real racing!”

In addition to two full series rounds of TitansRX action across both Saturday and Sunday, there will also be support action from the local S1600 class and CrossKarts, as well as drifting demonstrations.

This weekend will also mark the debut of the series’ revised broadcast format, which will be anchored by Rachael Downie and Tom Brooks.
