Nelson Piquet Jr returns to rallycross with TitansRX

Nelson Piquet Jr. will make his rallycross return in TitansRX this season, running a partial campaign.

The Brazilian will compete in four race weekends this year, beginning with the season opener in Essay, also taking in Lydden Hill, the MJP Arena, and Nyriad. Fellow Formula 1 and WEC veteran Alex Wurz will drive Piquet’s car at Montalegre and the Estering.

„I’m very happy to be joining TitansRX,“ said Piquet. „I love all forms of motorsport and I really enjoyed competing in rallycross in America a few years ago, so it will be great to get back behind the wheel of a rallycross car.“

„We’re going to have a lot of fun!“

Piquet, son of three-time F1 world champion Nelson Piquet, previously raced in the US-based Global Rallycross series. He was twice a championship contender there, and took and overall event victory at the 2015 Washington DC round.

Outside of rallycross, Piquet has a varied CV. After battling Lewis Hamilton for the 2006 GP2 crown, he raced in Formula 1 for Renault in 2008 and 2009.

Since then he has raced in NASCAR – where he is a multiple race winner; sports cars, and Stock Car Brasil. Piquet has also raced in Formula E, where he was the all-electric series‘ maiden champion in 2014-15.

“It is truly a dream come true to see the starting field of TitansRX Europe 2019 go from great to fantastic,“ said TitansRX founder and CEO Max Pucher. „I am so proud to welcome Nelson Piquet Jr. to the series.“

„He has already got some Supercar rallycross experience and should be a great contender for some cool battles for a podium slot.“
