Kevin Hansen: „I was tired of not winning“

Kevin Hansen will go into the TitansRX season finale with the points lead after continuing his podium run and winning his third round of the season at Nyirad.

The Swede is the only driver in the series to finish on the podium in every race so-far this season, and while he was the last of the three title contenders to win three races, consistency has ensured that he has been the class leader for much of the year.

His comprehensive victory in round 10 on Sunday – his first since the first Montalegre race at the beginning of August – came after he battled against mechanical issues to claim a third place finish in round nine.

„It was a really good weekend in the results, a third place and a win. I think on Saturday we struggled a little bit with the starts and I had a technical problem which set us back a bit but I still got a podium which was a nice comeback under difficult conditions,“ he said. „On Sunday I really wanted to win again – I was tired of not winning so I really pushed hard and I was really focused all day, pushing myself very hard and getting a very good rhythm.“

On Sunday Hansen also topped qualifying. Surprisingly this was the first time he had topped the heat stage this season. He hadn’t been dwelling on that however – in fact, he didn;t even realise he hadn’t been top qualifier all season.

„I didn’t even know I hadn’t been top qualifier so for me it didn’t really matter,“ he admitted. „I was just trying to put together the good races and today I was just hungry for a good weekend and I know I had good pace, to be able to keep that all weekend was really nice.“

„It’s a good feeling going into the final weekend were it can all be decided on Sunday with double points, so I look forward to that turn one.“

Looking ahead to that final at Estering, Hansen may have the advantage right now, but in order to leave Germany as the series winner he is hoping to keep his run of consistency and podium finishes going. However, he admits that luck will also be a key factor.

„I will try to continue my thing, my rhythm, my focus, try to bring this feeling I had this weekend to the next race,“ he said. „It will be a lot of luck, it’s always luck in rallycross. We’ll need to have a strong day, we’ll have many strong drivers back again at Estering, this weekend we were missing a few on the top-five I felt so the next race will be a lot more tough.“

„I’m doing all I can to be consistent and well prepared to fight for my position so I’ll do my thing and that seems to work here in TitansRX.“
