Jerome Grosset-Janin holds on for maiden TitansRX win

Jerome Grosset-Janin ended the dominance of the title-chasing trio to win an attritional final in round 11 of the 2019 TitansRX season.

The Frenchman was one of just two drivers to cross the line in the seven-lap race as the wet weather caused havoc.

The final was initially red flagged after a collision between wildcard driver Kevin Eriksson and ‚CsuCsu‘ which forced both drivers to retire with suspension damage. Prior to that, Kevin Hansen, Timmy Hansen, and Topi Heikkinen had all made good starts to lead the field into turn one.

On the restart it was Grosset-Janin who got the strongest start. From the back row of the grid he rocketed past Timmy Hansen to trail Heikkinen and Kevin Hansen into the first corner. Timmy Hansen would retire not long after following contact with a first turn wall.

Grosset-Janin soon made light work of Kevin Hansen, and began hunting down Heikkinen for the race lead. His job was made easier on the third lap of the race when Heikkinen slowed with damage.

That left Grosset-Janin with an unassailable lead for the closing laps of the race and he headed home Kevin Hansen to become the fourth different winner of the 2019 season. Despite retiring, Heikkinen was classified in third behind the two finishers.

Just like the final, the semi-finals were full of drama thanks to a downpour over the lunch break.

In the first semi-final, Tamara Molinaro’s first semi starting from the front-row ended in disaster when she made contact with Eriksson and spun on the opening lap. While she was able to continue in the race, she was later caught out by a wet patch and got beached in a gravel trap.

In the same race Abbie Eaton proved more than a match for the likes of Eriksson and Timmy Hansen, lapping faster than the former, and holding off the latter until she missed her braking point and rolled her Pantera RX6 after colliding with a wall.

The second semi-final saw the German trio of Ronny C’Rock, Rene Munnich, and Mandie August all eliminated as well with Kevin Hansen, Heikkinen, and Grosset-Janin, proving more than a match for them.
