Kevin Eriksson takes the final qualifying top spot of the season at Estering

Kevin Eriksson secured the final TQ spot of the year in round 12 of the 2019 season at Estering in Germany.

The Swede carried his fine practice form through into the heat races, winning his first and setting the fastest overall time of the session to-boot, backing that up with a third and second place in the Q2 and Q3 races.

Eriksson’s top qualifying result marks the first time since round three at Lydden Hill that one of the top-three drivers in the points hasn’t taken the TQ spot.

Title contender Topi Heikkinen wound up second with a brace of heat wins in Q1 and Q3. His Q3 win was also done in the fastest time of that round, but it wasn’t without controversy.

The Finn collided with rival Kevin Hansen at the start, leaving the Swede with a damaged car an little chance of challenging for the heat win. He had to settle for fourth overall, with Timmy Hansen splitting both.

Round 11 winner Jerome Grosset-Janin finished fifth. He ran wide in tricky conditions in Q2, losing the race lead in the process, then he engaged in an entertaining battle with ‚CsuCsu‘ and Oliver Webb in Q3 and although he emerged ahead of both, the battle cost him time.

Andreas Steffen took sixth spot, capping off his morning with a fine display in Q3 where he claimed a dominant race win – his first since the opening round of the season in Essay. Steffen beat compatriot Ronny C’Rock and Oliver Webb.

Webb also took a dominant victory, this time in Q2, which was also the second fastest time of the session. Then in Q3 he passed ‚CsuCsu‘ on the line to claim another top-three finish.

Abbie Eaton and Tamara Molinaro rounded out the top-10 with the same number of points, the Brit edging the Italian in a tense on-track battle in Q3.

‚CsuCsu‘ and Rene Munnich claimed the final two transfer spots, Munnich helped by a convincing heat win in a very wet Q1.

Werner Panhauser, Mandie August, and Reini Sampl all failed to advance, the latter two both suffering one retirement each after getting stuck in the gravel trap after being caught out at the second hairpin.
