Timmy Hansen made his title ambitions known by sweeping the board in qualifying for the penultimate round of the 2019 TitansRX season at Estering in Germany.
The Swede, who came into the weekend second in the points, won all of his heat races and set the fastest time in each round to complete a comprehensive dominance of the morning running.
Points leader Kevin Hansen settled for second, having raced in the same heats as his older brother Timmy and finishing second to him in each run.
In third was Tamara Molinaro – her best qualifying result of the season. The Italian survived a brush with a barrier at the final turn in Q1 before finishing a strong second on the road in Q2, and holding off Jerome Grosset-Janin for the race win in Q3.
Molinaro’s strong result splits the title contenders, with her beating Topi Heikkinen into fourth place. The Finn won his opening heat but then was drawn with the Hansens for the remaining two rounds. A battle for position with ‚CsuCsu‘ in Q3 further hampered his chances of a stronger position by costing him time, although he was able to close up to the back of the race leaders by the end of the five-lap contest.
Wildcard driver Kevin Eriksson ended qualifying in fifth. After contact dropped him out of contention for a win in Q1, he recreated his famous ‚round the outside‘ move in Q2, sweeping past Andreas Steffen, Ronny C’Rock, Grosset-Janin, and Molinaro to take victory. In victory he also set the second fastest time of Q2.
A repeat of the move didn’t quite pay off in Q3, but he was still able to set the third-fastest overall time in the final round, despite battling with a slow puncture.
Grosset-Janin completed the top-six, ahead of ‚CsuCsu‘ and Ronny C’Rock, who rallied back from a poor start in Q1 to masterfully carve through the field and take second on the road behind the Hungarian.
Hometown hero Andreas Steffen wound up ninth, ahead of compatriot Rene Munnich and Abbie Eaton who raced through suspension damage in Q2 after contact with Werner Panhauser. She then won her 3 race after a stunning move up the inside of Steffen and Webb at turn one.
Mandie August was the final driver to advance to the semi-finals on what is her TitansRX debut, while Webb, Panhauser, and Reini Sampl all failed to advance.
