Series winner Kevin Hansen hails ‘amazing year’

Kevin Hansen capped off a perfect season by winning his fourth race of the inaugural TitansRX season in the grand finale at Estering in Germany.

What was a record-equalling fourth main event victory of the season was also the young Swede’s 12th podium from 12 events, a record nobody else came close to, with his main title rivals Timmy Hansen and Topi Heikkinen both finishing off the podium four times over the course of the season.

“It’s been an amazing year, just to be on the podium every time is incredible and to secure the series win with a victory is amazing,” Kevin Hansen said following his final victory in round 12. “I fought really hard and I got to know the car really well, but also my car was working perfectly all year. It’s been so important to have my crew working so well all year like that.”

Kevin Hansen didn’t win a heat or top the timesheets during qualifying for round 12 at Estering, but came alive at the semi-final stage to win by over a second, before dominating the final with a lights-to-flag victory where he beat wildcard driver Kevin Eriksson and round 11 winner Jerome Grosset-Janin.

“I had a good fightback, I had a bit of a struggle in the qualis but in the semi and the final my starts were perfect so it was nice to win the event like this and win the series,” he said. “This series has a lot of good drivers and it’s really good practice for me to grow all the time as a driver, to be here.”

Overall Kevin Hansen scored four wins – equal most with Timmy Hansen; five second places – a series record; and three third places – equal most with Heikkinen and Grosset-Janin. He also topped qualifying once, in round 10 at Nyirad where he completed a near-clean sweep of the event.
